Tehran, Apr. 29 (SENA) - Iran held its second petrochemical conference on upstream and downstream industries dubbed 'development and investment' in Paris Continental Hotel to introduce different investment opportunities for foreign investors.

"This conference is aimed at persuading international companies to participate in development plans of Iran's petrochemical industry," Iranian Ambassador to Paris Abolqassem Delfi said. FNA reportd.

The Iranian ambassador, meantime, pointed the status quo of economic cooperation between Iran and France, and said, "There are plenty of economic capacities for mutual cooperation, including in the field of petrochemical industry."

Meantime, Iran's Deputy Oil Minister Reza Norouzzadeh pointed to Iran's industrial and economic developments over past 12 years, and said, "By relying on domestic capabilities and capacities in collaboration with a number of foreign companies production capacity of petrochemical industry has increased three times."

He added that within a framework of 5-year development plan more than 100 plans are ready now for joint venture project with foreign companies, including French firms.

The deputy oil minister, meantime, invited foreign companies to attend next exhibition of oil, gas and petrochemical in Iran.

In relevant remarks earlier in April, a member of the Iranian parliament said attraction of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the petrochemical sector must be a priority for the companies operating in the sector to develop the industry.

The spokesman of the Parliament's energy committee, Asadollah Ghareh Khani said investment in petroleum projects is a priority for the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum in the new calendar year which began on March 21.

He also called on the ministry to prioritize attraction of foreign finances for funding petrochemical projects during the year.

"Luring foreign investors into petroleum projects especially those concerning development of joint oil and gas fields must be among the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum's priorities in the new calendar year," the MP said.

Moreover, he stressed, inviting oil and petrochemical majors into projects in the industry must also be further pursued in the country.

"Iran's gas production is currently at its best, so we should use this capacity to export the item while helping to increase the export of petrochemical products," Ghareh Khani said.
